How Can I Help?

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you”

– Maya Angelou

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy or counselling involves a process through which clients work one-on-one with a psychologist to explore their feelings, beliefs or behaviours. Because every person is a unique individual, I formulate my psychotherapeutic approach to meet the uniqueness of the individual’s needs. I focus on a save, caring and confidential relationship where you will feel understood, held and validated without judgment or invasion. I offer short and long term individual therapy which consists of regular sessions of 50-60 minutes each (depending on the need of the client). Before individual therapy commences, a thorough intake interview is done and the goals of individual therapy are identified. During this phase the client has the chance to decide whether he/she feels comfortable working with the therapist. I offer individual therapy to children, adolescents and adults.

Assessments

A psychological assessment is a process through which a psychologist evaluates a client’s psychological, emotional, and behavioural well-being through clinical interviews, observations and formal testing. One or more standardized tests are used to gain more insight regarding your functioning, personality, and overall well-being. Types of assessments include the following: Neuropsychological Assessments, Cognitive Assessments, Emotional Assessments and Personality Assessments. Assessments vary in price; please contact me for a quote.

Family Therapy

The goal of family therapy is to reduce distress and conflict and to improve communication, relationships and support. In family therapy the family are empowered to help and support each other. Family therapy should be considered when a family has to deal with illness or addiction, adjustments, behavioural challenges, abuse or trauma. Problems are seen as patterns or systems that require adjusting, as opposed to viewing problems as residing in the individual.

Parental Guidance

Parenting is a rewarding but also challenging experience. When our children struggle with emotional or behavioural challenges, it can leave a parent/caregiver feeling helpless and overwhelmed. Parental guidance is a space where your child is thought about together and where you are provided with parenting approaches and skills to help your child.

Group Therapy

Group therapy offers you a space where you can relate to others who often have similar challenges or feelings. Group therapy can provide you additional support in coping with stressful life events, trauma and interpersonal difficulties. A group may ease your sense of isolation, improve your social skills and teach you about yourself.

Please note that all first sessions need to be paid in cash or EFT on the day and can be claimed back from medical aids. Subsequent follow-up sessions are payable in cash (either EFT or cash, no card facilities available) or can be claimed from medical aids by the practitioner involved on your behalf. Cash or EFT payments are usually at a reduced rate. It is advisable to contact your medical aid to enquire about the availability of funds and the benefits of your medical aid plan (as not all medical aid plans make provision for psychology sessions).

Please note that sessions not cancelled within 24 hours may be charged for.
